Women’s Support Group

A safe place where women come to support each other

Women’s Support Group provides an opportunity for women to debrief about their week, receive support with interpersonal issues, learn about healthy relationships, taking care of self, and recognizing boundaries.

Facilitated by a skilled professional, such as a therapist, social worker, or crisis intervention worker, the group is flexible to the participants’ needs in order to help them develop skills and resiliency in facing life’s challenges.

Who can attend Women’s Support Group?

This is a support group for women in the Grande Prairie region who are experiencing difficulties in their lives. Pace uses an inclusive definition of woman, that includes trans and gender-queer women. This is an open group and does not require that you be a client of Pace. No referrals, registration or ongoing commitment is required.

What can be expected at Group meetings?

This group has a psycho-educational component. Using a traditional method of group sharing by moving through the circle in a clockwise direction, women are invited to introduce themselves, speak to their lives and circumstances, and express any concerns or issues they may be facing. Topics for group discussion may be chosen based on specific requests from members of the group, or they may be based on themes that emerge based on group participation. The facilitator may provide information, education, and resources to the group around each chosen topic.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.”
