SEXUAL ASSAULT & TRAUMA PROGRAMS

Building Safe & Caring Communities Through Support & Education

Pace Sexual Assault and Trauma Programs provide short-term counselling or longer-term therapy, for children, youth and adults aimed at addressing trauma experienced in various forms as a result of sexual violence. Pace employs a highly trained staff of therapists who have a specific set of specialized skills in providing trauma therapy. Clinical supervision is provided directly to therapists in support of ethical high-quality therapeutic practice.

Therapy clients are provided up 24 sessions to allow more clients to have access to this special subsidized program. Highly skilled trauma therapists with Master’s Degrees in Social Work or Psychology provide therapy to clients at no cost to the client, or a fee for service rate on a sliding scale, which the intake worker will assist you with. It is recommended to agree to the therapy goals with your therapist soon after starting to make the experience as effective as possible.

Some therapeutic interventions may include: talk therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Somatic Processing Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectal Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Psycho-Education, A.R.T. (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), and group work.

Pace offers therapeutic support services in 4 communities:

  • Grande Prairie
  • High Prairie
  • Peace River
  • Valleyview

To access the Therapy Programs in the communities listed above, please call the intake worker in Grande Prairie at 780-539-6692 to arrange an intake appointment either in person or by phone. The intake worker will help determine which program is most appropriate for you, or help you find a more appropriate service depending on your needs and circumstances.

Intake and Assessment Process:

The intake worker will collect information from the individual or parent which is used to determine the appropriate program for that person. The intake is placed on a wait list until an appropriate therapist becomes available in or near your community.  The intake may take place in person or over the phone.
