You are here: Home » Programs » Support Programs » Family Support
The Family Intervention program is a closed program that provides a range of support services in the Northwest region to youth & families strictly involved with Children Services. With a referral from a Children Service worker, services include:
- In-Home Support: Improving family functioning and promoting the protection and well-being of children in their homes is the main objective. The in-home support program is aimed at preventing unnecessarily long-term out-of-home placements of children. The key element of reuniting families is done through building a relationship with the families whereby the families can increase their knowledge and skills in family violence, discipline, communication and problem-solving, routines and practice consistency.
- Supervised Visits: At times, the court grants supervised access to parents. Therefore, A Family Intervention worker will attend visits with the parents/parent to ensure the safety of the child/ren. Visits may occur at the Pace building or in the community.
- Youth Work: This portion of the program is geared toward school-aged children whose families are involved with Children’s Services. The youth worker provides a positive role model and offers educational information to the youth as well as their families primarily through socialization and recreational activity. This works towards reducing or eliminating behaviors that may place a child, family or community at risk. The goals of this program include increasing independent behavior, improving stress management, communication skills, and social interaction, developing social support, and lastly, attaining self-sufficiency.
- Drive Program: This service is onlyavailable by referral to families involved with Children’s Services. Drive services may be arranged based on needs to facilitate client access to therapeutic and support services, childcare, and scheduled appointments in the region.
The program focuses on strength and evidence-based practices aimed at supporting families involved with Children’s Services.
Family Intervention program staff come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, with years of experience, offering clients caring, quality support and assistance. This program provides services in Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, Grande Cache & the Central Peace region with satellite offices in Peace River and High Level.

“It’s not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.”
