Building Safe & Caring Communities Through Support & Education

The Family Support Program provides a variety of services to children, youth, and families involved with Children’s Services. These services can include:

  • In-Home Support: Provides home-based, family-centered, trauma informed, and child focused parenting support services when a more intensive level of ongoing support and/or monitoring is required to ensure the safe and healthy development of children in the home.
Pace Family Support Program
  • Supervised Visits: When there is a risk of harm to one or more family members, the Court may decide to allow visits between these members only under supervised conditions.  Referrals will be accepted and prioritized on a first come first served basis. Court Ordered Family Support time will take precedence. Supervised visits most often take place in Pace visitation rooms; however, they can also take place in the community and/or family home depending on referral goals. A Pace Family Support worker will sit in for the entirety of the visit and cue parent if/when necessary regarding parenting techniques, appropriate discipline, attachment, boundaries, etc.
  • Youth Work: Where individualized attention is required to assist youth in connecting with community resources and support networks and/or in developing life skills, healthy coping strategies and opportunities for personal competence and positive self-esteem, the Youth Support program may be accessed.
  • Drive Services: This service is available to families involved with Children’s Services. Drive services may be arranged based on need, to facilitate client access to therapeutic and supports services, childcare, and scheduled appointments in the region.
  • Drop-in Assessments: This service is provided where there is concern regarding drug/alcohol use, inconsistent and/or inappropriate parenting/discipline, or safety concerns over the condition of the family home. This service is also provided when a child transitions back into the care of the parent, to ensure that the parent has adequate support and are not becoming unnecessarily overwhelmed.

The Family Support Program also provides occasional short term or one-time respite for our mentioned services. The program focuses on strength and evidence-based practices aimed at supporting families involved with Children’s Services.

Family Support program staff come from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, with years of experience, offering clients caring, quality support and assistance. This program provides services in Grande Prairie, Beaverlodge, Valleyview, Grande Cache & the Central Peace region.

“It’s not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself.”
